Amherst ArtWalk and Charity Exhibition

Illustrations from Halo and mixed-media panels are currently hanging as part of a solo exhibition entitled "Ethereal Journey" at Amherst Dog Wash in Amherst, MA.  The exhibition is part of the Amherst ArtWalk, an initiative to highlight local artists and local businesses.

The ArtWalk opening reception is on Thursday, April 3 from 5-8pm, and the exhibit will run through the month of April.  Both books and illustration postcards are on sale with 100% of profits benefiting the Friends of the Westfield Animal Shelter, Inc.

Writer's Day 2011

Today I had the pleasure of attending Writer's Day at Bay Path College.  The college brings some well-known folks in publishing to present on different topics.  I attended Richard Michelson's talk about writing books for children and Deborah Herman's round-table about spiritual writing.  I picked up some crucial info about publishing and it was great to meet some fellow first-time authors and illustrators.

Michelson's talk was my favorite because he didn't sugar-coat the facts, but also encouraged new writers to break the rules and just go for it.  I was convinced to go the self-publishing route because keeping my own vision is more important than making a career out of it.  Deborah Herman touched on what it means to get an agent, how to consider audience, and how to push your unique voice as an author. I would definitely attend this event next time!
