Today I had the pleasure of attending Writer's Day at Bay Path College. The college brings some well-known folks in publishing to present on different topics. I attended Richard Michelson's talk about writing books for children and Deborah Herman's round-table about spiritual writing. I picked up some crucial info about publishing and it was great to meet some fellow first-time authors and illustrators.
Michelson's talk was my favorite because he didn't sugar-coat the facts, but also encouraged new writers to break the rules and just go for it. I was convinced to go the self-publishing route because keeping my own vision is more important than making a career out of it. Deborah Herman touched on what it means to get an agent, how to consider audience, and how to push your unique voice as an author. I would definitely attend this event next time!
